A man had promised to give his daughter in marriage to one man, then he gave her in marriage to another man. What is the ruling on that?

As for the one who gave his daughter in marriage to a man, when he had promised before that to give her in marriage to another man, but he broke his promise, breaking promises is one of the characteristics of the hypocrites, and it is not permissible to break promises. But the sin is on the father; as for the husband, there is no sin on him if he was not aware of that. End quote.
